George Alfred Unwin was my gt grandfather. He was on Republic and received a CQD medal. AFAIK he was a senior steward. George was born at 8 Great Clive Street, Toxteth Park, and baptised at St Peter's Church, Liverpool, on August 30, 1866. He died of peritonitis in 1928 after being taken ill aboard SS Franconia and brought ashore to a Catholic convent/hospital in Brooklyn, New York, USA. His body was brought back to Liverpool on RMS Lusitania and he is buried in Kirkdale Cemetery, Liverpool. I'd be interested to hear of any more information anyone may have about him.
