HEADLINE: TREASURE HUNTERS DELAY SEARCH FOR BOAT

BYLINE: AP

SOURCE: AP

BODY:

Ocean-going treasure hunters have delayed the search for the Republic, a liner that sank in 1909 off Nantucket, because they can't find an American ship that will satisfy insurance regulations. Gerard Spring, spokesman for the group headed by Martin Bayerle of Martha's Vineyard, said the organization will search for a Canadian boat so US insurance rules can be bypassed. The trip is aimed at salvaging artifacts and filming the Republic with remote- controlled cameras to determine the best way of getting at a rumored cache of $400 million worth of gold on board.
